Connections and Messaging

Building connections on My Connect lets you stay in touch with people who matter to you, and private messaging keeps your conversations secure with end-to-end encryption.

Sending Connection Requests

To connect with someone:

  1. Visit their profile by clicking their name on a post or searching for them.
  2. Click Connect.
  3. Your request will be sent to them for approval.

You can view pending requests, sent requests, and your full connections list from My Connect > Connections.

Managing Connections

From your connections list you can:

  • View all your current connections.
  • See mutual connections with other users.
  • Remove a connection if you no longer wish to be connected.

Private Messaging

My Connect includes a private messaging system with end-to-end encryption (E2EE). This means only you and the person you are messaging can read the conversation — not even Gender Journey can access the content.

Starting a Conversation

  1. Go to Messages from the top bar or the My Connect section.
  2. Select an existing conversation or click New Message.
  3. Choose a connection to message.
  4. Type your message and click Send.

End-to-End Encryption

Your messages are encrypted using public and private key cryptography:

  • When you first enable messaging, a key pair is generated for your account.
  • Messages are encrypted on your device before being sent.
  • Only the recipient's private key can decrypt the message.

Backup Codes and Key Recovery

To protect access to your encrypted messages:

  • Save your backup codes — When you set up E2EE, you will be given backup codes. Store these in a safe place.
  • Multi-device sync — Your encryption keys can be synced across your devices so you can access messages from any device.
  • Key recovery — If you lose access to your keys, use your backup codes to restore them.

Read Receipts

Read receipts let you know when your message has been seen. You can view your full conversation history at any time.
