I'm a senior technology leader who has spent nearly two decades building products and leading teams across the globe. But a few years ago, I found myself navigating an entirely different kind of complex system, my own gender transition.
I'm also the author of The White Noise Conspiracy, a great-selling book that brings technology and trans experiences together.
Transitioning as a senior leader in tech brought unique challenges I hadn't anticipated. I was working with people across different cultures and political backgrounds, many of whom I'd collaborated with professionally for 18 years.
Coming out wasn't a single moment it was a delicate, ongoing process of helping those around me understand while staying true to myself. I wanted it to feel natural, not forced, and that required grace, patience, and countless conversations.
Then there was the healthcare system. Finding doctors who were willing and able to help was surprisingly difficult. Many seemed afraid of the responsibility, lacking either guidance or understanding in gender-affirming care. Others harbored prejudices they didn't bother to hide. The support I needed felt frustratingly out of reach, even when I was doing everything "right."
The real wake-up call came during a routine doctor's appointment. My provider asked for a complete history: every medication I'd taken and when, all my surgeries, health monitoring data, blood test results, the works.
I sat there realising I'd need to pull information from at least ten different apps, paper files, and fragmented notes just to answer basic questions about my own healthcare.
I have ADHD, which made tracking everything even harder. I'd forget how much estrogen I had left. I'd miss injection dates. When I switched hormone providers, which happened multiple times due to lack of care and continuity, I'd lose track of my treatment history all over again.
There was no single place to manage my journey holistically.
That's when I thought: there has to be a better way.
Gender Journey was born from my own frustration with the scattered, incomplete tools available for managing transition. I needed one place where I could track medications, appointments, health data, and milestones without juggling multiple systems or relying on my memory alone.
